Glutathione is a food supplement with S-acetyl L-glutathione, 100 mg per capsule. The acetyl group helps protect the glutathione molecule and facilitates crossing the blood-brain barrier, allowing it to detoxify directly and protect the brain. Also known as the “master antioxidant,” glutathione is a tripeptide composed of L-glutamine, L-cysteine, and glycine, present in all living systems. It is considered the most important intracellular antioxidant produced by the human body, notable for its antioxidant and detoxifying actions, involvement in nutrient metabolism, and role in balancing cellular processes.
Regular glutathione (administered in plasma or intravenously) must be broken down by specific enzymes to be absorbed into cells and then reconstituted into reduced glutathione (rGSH). Therefore, a better dietary choice is S-acetyl L-glutathione, which is active and orally absorbed, increasing intracellular rGSH directly and naturally, without energy loss and without the risk of being compromised during illness.
As the primary endogenous antioxidant produced by cells, glutathione is directly involved in neutralizing free radicals and reactive oxygen species.
