Cordyceps sinensis is one of the most valuable and versatile mushrooms used in traditional Chinese medicine, renowned for centuries for its tonic, antioxidant, and adaptogenic effects. Also known as the “caterpillar fungus,” Cordyceps sinensis is an entomopathogenic mushroom, meaning it develops its life cycle by parasitizing insect larvae—a unique process that contributes to its complex chemical composition.
Cordyceps extracts are valued for their ability to combat fatigue, support emotional balance, and slow down the aging process, providing comprehensive support for both physical and mental health.
“Grass in summer, worm in winter” – this is how the Tibetans described Cordyceps, fascinated by its unusual shape: resembling a worm in the cold season and grass blades in summer. Considered a natural treasure, Cordyceps sinensis grows naturally on alpine pastures above 3,500 meters, on the Tibetan Plateau in southwestern China, as well as in high-altitude regions of Bhutan and Nepal.
Used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Cordyceps has been valued not only as a remedy but also as a precious food. Its mycelium is a natural source of essential amino acids, B-complex vitamins (B1, B2, B12), vitamin K, and carbohydrates—a nutritional profile that has made this mushroom a highly sought-after ingredient worldwide.
Cordyceps CS-4 is the strain closest to the wild Cordyceps mushroom that grows at high altitudes in Tibet and the Himalayas. Essentially, Cordyceps CS-4 preserves the properties of the mushroom that Traditional Chinese Medicine has used for centuries.
If you want an effective, safe, and scientifically tested Cordyceps supplement, CS-4 is the ideal choice!
Cordyceps sinensis is a rare and highly valuable medicinal mushroom, and its wild form is difficult to harvest and expensive. That’s why, in the 1980s, Chinese researchers isolated and cultivated the CS-4 strain (Paecilomyces hepiali) under controlled laboratory conditions to reproduce the bioactive compounds of the wild mushroom.
CS-4 is the only strain cultivated in a liquid medium that preserves the original composition of wild Cordyceps sinensis, considered a “full-spectrum extract” and one of the most studied forms of Cordyceps in the world.
Unlike other Cordyceps extracts (e.g., Cordyceps militaris), CS-4 has been the subject of numerous preclinical and clinical studies, particularly in China, showing clear benefits in supporting cardiovascular health, immune function, and energy levels.
Studies over time have shown that the three compounds isolated from Cordyceps species—polysaccharides, cordycepic acid, and adenosine—not only support the mushroom’s therapeutic effects but also guarantee superior quality.
Polysaccharides can effectively help regulate blood sugar levels (Kiho et al., 1993)¹, exhibit antimetastatic and antitumor effects (Nakamura et al., 1999)², and also provide antiviral, immune-protective, and antioxidant benefits. Cordycepic acid has significant effects in treating liver fibrosis (Guo & Friedman, 2007)³, acts as a diuretic, influences plasma osmotic pressure, and has antioxidant properties by neutralizing free radicals (Nomani et al., 2014)⁴. Adenosine has multiple functions, including immunomodulatory and antioxidant effects.
CS-4 extract standardization is a major differentiator: each batch is guaranteed to contain 30% polysaccharides, 10% cordycepic acid, and 1% adenosine—concentrations that ensure the strongest, most consistent, and rapid effects.
Additionally, the multi-step extraction process—using both water and ethanol—produces a complete extract, including both water-soluble compounds (polysaccharides) and fat-soluble compounds (nucleosides, adenosine).
Recent studies have shown that Cordyceps supports immune, cardiovascular, respiratory, and endocrine health. These benefits are attributed to its content of anti-inflammatory compounds such as polysaccharides, modified nucleosides, and cyclosporines. Research also suggests that Cordyceps extract may help prevent COPD exacerbations and is suitable for long-term use.
Cordyceps CS-4 contains a standardized extract of Cordyceps sinensis mycelium, with a minimum of 30% polysaccharides, 10% mannitol (cordycepic acid), and 1% adenosine. Cordyceps-based supplements may also help combat inflammation associated with conditions such as Crohn’s disease, arthritis, leaky gut syndrome, or bronchial asthma.
Cordyceps CS-4 contains standardized levels of polysaccharides and mannitol, two compounds with strong antioxidant properties that help reduce the formation of free radicals and protect cells from oxidative stress. Free radicals are one of the major contributors to accelerated aging, affecting the health of the skin, brain, and internal organs.
By helping to lower cellular oxidative stress, Cordyceps may slow visible signs of aging and support long-term cognitive function and mental energy. In addition, adenosine—standardized at 1% in the CS-4 extract—plays an important role in supporting neuronal health and healthy brain metabolism.
The standardized CS-4 extract contains mannitol (10%) and adenosine (1%), two key nutrients that support energy metabolism and help regulate blood sugar levels. Mannitol acts as an osmoregulatory agent and antioxidant, contributing to glycemic balance, while adenosine plays a role in ATP production and insulin sensitivity.
At the same time, the bioactive compounds in Cordyceps have been associated with lowering “bad” (LDL) cholesterol levels and supporting cardiovascular health. Studies suggest that the extract may help prevent fat accumulation in the bloodstream and reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events.
Cordyceps CS-4 supports both physiological and psychological stress management thanks to its unique combination of polysaccharides, mannitol, and adenosine. Polysaccharides—especially beta-glucans—help regulate the immune response to stress and reduce chronic inflammation, which is often associated with neuropsychological conditions.
Adenosine plays an important role in vascular relaxation and in protecting neurons against oxidative stress, thereby contributing to mental balance and improved emotional resilience. Studies suggest that Cordyceps supplementation may help lower cortisol levels, enhancing the body’s ability to cope with daily challenges without mental exhaustion.
When your body needs real support—not just promises—it responds to the proven effectiveness of Cordyceps CS-4!
